Alpe Seewji from above on a sunny winter day, the hut and the alpine huts in the snow

Winter season, 26 December to 31 March

Rifugio Grande Halte, Città di Mortara

A mountain hut founded in 1911, at 1,945 m on the Monterosa Ski slopes. You reach it from Alagna by cable car, or on skis. Come up for lunch to try our traditional Piedmontese cooking, or spend the night in one of our characterful mountain rooms.

Our story

A hut from another time, on the slopes

Born more than a century ago as a little inn on the road to Monte Rosa, halfway up from Alagna to the Col d'Olen, Grande Halte is today the Italian Alpine Club's Rifugio Città di Mortara.

On the Monterosa Ski slopes

The slopes run past the hut: leave with your skis on and come back for dinner. In the evening the snowcat works under the windows and the silence of the alp does the rest.
